In defense of stuff.

You know what? I have a headcold right now which is making it difficult to think about anything coherently, let alone put it into words, but it seems to me that the works people turn to in order to laugh, or to cry, or to get inspired by, or to masturbate to, or to fill an otherwise empty time are works which get remembered. I am very much in favour of stuff.

And stuff can have very strong effects on people. After all, stuff is part of how we interact with each other... there's more to life than just talking to people and/or having sex with them, whatever certain people say. And those people have probably gotten that opinion as a result of other stuff.

It's a two sided thing though... stuff has an effect, but it's not a direct effect... A does not directly and exactly equal B... and the effect varies with the person experiencing the stuff... Playing Grand Theft Auto won't make someone run out and start car-jacking... The focus of most news on how bad things supposedly are may increase paranoia... it's all complex interactions...

Which is a problem since people don't like complex interactions. They want to be told that A=B always and completely, or A doesn't ever equal B at all...

In conclusion: Blargh.
