4 November. - This to my old and true friend John Seward, M. D., of Purfleet, London, in case I may not see him. It may explain. It is morning, and I write by a fire which all the night I have kept alive - Madam Mina aiding me. It is cold, cold; ( so cold that the grey heavy sky is full of snow... )

I've never noticed this before:

"I think I drowse myself, for all of sudden I feel guilt, as though I have done something"

After this, Mina claims to have already eaten, and is "more redder than before"

In that deep sleep of hers, did Mina take a sip out of van Helsing?

I never looked at it that way before. I just attributed her appearance to her nearness to the Count and his land, and that she's no longer being exposed to all the sunlight. Her claim to have eaten seemed an obvious ploy to avoid having to eat food (which at this point is probably nauseating or even painful).

Thank you

i think van helsing is afraid she's taken a sip...

He really is quite brave now, isn't he? "I'm alone with a vampire-to-be in Dracula's country...and she's stopped sleeping nights and eating proper food. Best get on with things."
