Firstly, I've gotta say: What a fucking creep! And I'm sorry that you had to go through that. That is messed up, but it's a good thing you reported it. As far as the MTA workers are concerned, wow, fuck them for acting that way towards you. "just ignore it." What if that man harassed a woman on the train? Should she just ignore it too?
On another note, I've tried to discuss male privilege with many of my male (and even some female) friends and almost all of them have dismissed my comments claiming that it's a myth! I don't think many people really understand just how brutal the act of rape is, whether it's physical or emotional.

More people need to read bell hooks, yo. I'm tired of people, especially mainstream liberals who feel like they can "erase racism" by imagining it doesn't exist or that they're "over gender" by treating gender issues as though they're delusions of people with victim complexes. The worst has to be when marginalized people internalize these attitudes and say things like "yeah, sexism, whatever...its not like I'm living under the Taliban". Any people who claim straight white male privilige isn't intact and at work constantly have their heads in the sand.

Did either of you go to the Holla Back event at Blue Stockings? I really wanted to go but had to work. If you did, how was it?

nooo, i really wanted to go but ended up working that day as well. i'm told if you contact them (or street harassment coalition.. i thought they were one in the same but i could be mistaken) they can do a workshop with your group. i want to set up one for food not bombs, and just invite a ton of people in the community. if it's by newark avenue, maybe some street harassers will show up!

i hear this loud and clear. lately i've been thinking: if i was a boy, what would i do? i would stay later at parties and not worry about taking the subway home. i would wear whatever i want wherever i wanted. i wouldn't worry about walking five blocks. d00ds don't realize the privileges they have.

even right now; i'm getting ready to leave the house. it's hot out but i don't want to wear something that makes me 'harassable' which is pretty much anything, but i'm not in the mood to deal with wonderful compliments today.
