PS--It's good to have someone be the 'Dracula police' and be the information source for what is correct/incorrect factually about Vlad the Impaler.

I need to read more of her reasoning against Stoker knowingly using Vlad as the basis. There are two things she doesn't address when making her case:

1. The fact that Van Helsing goes at length to describe that "he is the same Voivode who crossed the Danube and held back the Turk, et al" (I'm paraphrasing).

2. The fact that Prof. Arminius Vambery had lengthy conversations with Stoker about tales of his homeland's folklore and history. This posits that Stoker may've known a great deal beyond what he glossed over in Land Beyond the Forest on the subject of Vlad.

Hopefully I'll find something at some point where she takes these things into account. But as for that facsimile, I cannot believe what an awesome experience that will be!

take these points over to her LJ and repost there? I'm sure she'd be happy to answer your questions. She's very nice. Good luck!

Haha! I had no idea she's on LiveJournal.

I've always had real mixed thoughts about her writings. She always manages to make me bristle with her anti-Coppola's Dracula tirades, but then she also does great things such as publish the upcoming facsimile-edition of the Dracula manuscript, something which is LONG overdue.

What a great interview! Thanks so much for the link. I'm so happy she identified the I Am Legend novel as excellent vampire literature (I love that book!) and the movie as poor film (what a disappointment it was!). That was a very interesting article.

Excellent.

I know Xakara, moon_chylde for starters. I didn't look at your entire flist, but who knows, we might have more in common.

Good to meet you, too.
