I have no idea about the story by Sergei Dovlatov, but this one I totally loved, the free and easy way Draco and Harry's relationships came about. This was a joy to read and its going straight in my memories file :)

I am incredibly late answering comments, my sincere apologies. And thank you so much, lijahlover! It was a thrill to write Harry's pov in Dovlatov's tone.

This is...fascinating! Cold, but fascinating. I can't express very well, but I do like this story.

I am incredibly late answering comments, sorry sweet! :)

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this story and leave a comment. I guess the tone comes across as cold. It's totally H/D for me, though. :)

Wow. This is utterly beautiful.

I love how many different tones are blended in this, hope and anger and humor and love and Harry's hopeless attempt at figuring Malfoy out. I also like how most of the action is kept in the background; we know what happens, but it's a less, I think the word I want is dramatic, dystopia than some I've read, and all the better for it. And Harry and Draco do seem to have a level of instinctual understanding despite the problems Harry has deciding what to do next.

You even got in the line about Hermione lecturing them on how calling each other by their last names is psychologically unhealthy!

Thank you again.

Lomo, my sincere apologies for replying so belatedly to your wonderful comment. You express perfectly what had drawn me to Dovlatov's story, the understatement and yet the sense of "instinctual understanding" that seeps from most every word. If I brought this across in my re-writing, I am very pleased. Really, I did this experiment to learn how to use fewer words. ;) Again, thank you so much.
