IDW Thoughts

I have never seen a writer so out of touch with the core of the source material than M.Scott and that's saying something. I mean, say what you will about how terrible Costa and some of the others were. At least they remembered these are Transformers and not humans in a metallic shell.

WOW.

And that's all I will say about the upcoming M.Scott comic ( Read more... )

opinions, ramblings

:pat, pat, pat: I think most people will agree on this point =____=

I'm still baffled that they agreed to this, taking on account the whole functionalism plot from before... no sense whatsoever u__u

It baffles me as well. They continue to let Scott do whatever she wants in her narratives, though it clashes with other established canons and I'm just... so confused? Why would they agree to this? Why would they let her announce she wants to try and ignore the very thing that makes a Transformer a Transformer? I mean, I know Hasbro tends to be out of touch with their audience, but this is so far out of touch as to be ignorant. XD

Well, the reason Windblade went silent is because Scott was working on Till All Are One, the series that is supposed to take place after Combiner Wars and whatever Titan Returns is. She has her own FULL series, not a mini-series any longer. And I guarantee, she has more pages than J.Ro.

I suspect what they are going to do, eventually, is cancel MTMTE on the assumption that those fans will then flock to Til All Are One. (Well, I got NEWS for you Hasbro. That's not how it works).

I haven't been following the IDW comics for about a year now, so I can only comment on what I've read. This new direction (or whatever the hell it is) reminds me of what the Transformers fandom was like when I first joined ages back. The little corner I stumbled into was filled with Cybertronians who could take off their armour to reveal skin underneath, long flowing hair under their helms, and other very human bits all over the place - including pregnancy bellies that fell off after birthing like the females were the Pregnant Midge doll. I shudder to think that there's a writer of canon who's trying to head back in that direction.

It does seem like that's the direction Scott wants to head, yes. She wants to make the Transformers more "human" and not through their actions, but through their appearance. She also wants to ignore the importance of a person's alt-mode because it is unimportant.

All in all, reasons why I will not be purchasing her series.

The fact that she seems to have editorial backing in this really does make me nervous about the general future direction of IDW's take on Transformers and does make me glad that I stopped following when I did.

Definitely that. Everything she does, it is with the full backing of IDW. They have to approve all her stuff, which means they approve of the direction she's taking. And I have this funny feeling that her direction is going to be the one that IDW wants to keep, while ridding itself of the other ongoings they have, which means come shortly, It seems I won't be following it at all anymore. If I wanted to read about humanoid robots wearing armor where transforming is only a side note, I'd go find something better to read. XD
