There are a lot of reasons to hate Sarah Palin but the way I have seen people going off about her the photo of her on Newsweek is getting me really angry ( Read more... )

Oh wow. It's not even NOTICEABLE unless you blow it WAYYYYYY up. That's fucking ridiculous.

I'm NOT a fan of the woman in any sense (at ALLLLLLL), but that's just stupid.

It's really not and it pisses me off so much that people are making a big deal about it. There are legitimate reasons to dislike her but this is definitely NOT one of them.

I feel you on the body hair issue. I DO have more hair on my arms than my husband and I've always been self-conscious about it. I have hair on my upper lip, too. However, I admit that if there was going to be a huge-ass picture of my head on a magazine cover I would wax that bastard within an inch of its life just to avoid a situation like this.

I sometimes remove mine and sometimes let it grow in. I'm less self-conscious of it now then I used to be and it's one of those where I think now that if my husband isn't put off by it and I'm not particularly bothered by it, why should I get upset if someone else doesn't find it attractive? I like to present myself well but I'm not trying to impress anyone.

I should put up some pictures of my hairy arms. I joke that I'm a bit of a gorilla. :D

Goodness! The Holy Cow and Her Seven Rabbit Apostles know how I hate Sarah Palin and all that she stands for but...WTF?! That's not a moustache! If they want a moustache I can send them one of my pictures and they'll see what a bearded lady looks like. But even if it was, what's wrong with it? She is a politician, not a model. Some wrinkles and some facial hair are not reasons to criticise her, especially when there is so many other things inside her with which we could find fault.

I really hate how shallow we are all becoming as a society. It's sad.

Exactly this! If I didn't take the time to remove my facial hair I probably could grow a bit of a beard too, much as it embarrasses me to say it. It certainly doesn't make me a bad person or less of a woman though.

The things people will criticize someone else over though. It's appalling. Especially since there's no end to the things that are real faults to criticize when it comes to Palin.

I have to say I can't really see anything at all. But yet again it's all about sexism, isn't it? I'm certainly not aware of anyone judging McCain or Biden by their looks. Are there people spending hours discussing whether Obama needs to shave that I just don't know about?

I think you would have enjoyed a discussion I had earlier today with someone who stated that "only a man has hairy toes". She was quickly set straight by at least twenty women.

It is sexist and shallow and it's disgusting. It's one thing to make a passing comment about finding a person attractive or unattractive but it's a new game altogether to start picking out features, especially barely noticable ones, to critique like that.

I would have enjoyed that! I have to shave my big toe and second toe and a bit of my foot when I wear sandals because they get so hairy.

I'm the same with my big toes, unless I'm feeling fancy, in which case I epilate them. :-)

To be honest, even if she looks less than what we all consider picture perfect with all the little flaws photoshopped out, she still does look alright in this picture. She looks like every other woman who has had a picture taken and not had her flaws removed from it. And even with them in, she's still an attractive woman.

Then again, I see a huge line between pointing out "Look! She's flawed like the rest of us! Stop saying she's perfect!" and sneering "Go get that 'stache waxed, lady!"
