PS: I STILL don't know how to say "happy birthday" in Egyptian besides making some kind of a construct like the one you did. I am beginning to believe they knew no such thing....
Perhaps the average Egyptian didn't have access to a calendar for birthdays. They just sort of knew when the seasons were, e.g. if someone was born on a festival day (m Hb etc.) they would know but otherwise ...
p.s. I was listening to The Mummy Returns last night to find out how they pronounced wife and daughter. It was ages since I had watched it and it was fun to see it again, and I spotted Imhotep says see-moo-ee (sm-j) for 'help me' like Apophis host in Serpent's Song!
sm, THAT'S the verb ... this is actually pretty rare and not at place here at all (it means help as in "nourish" the widow, not help as in "save"), but yes, it MUST be sm wj (not sm=j, in that case, the host would be the subject) - it corresponds exactly to the sounds the host is making. I should have opened the dictionary, but sm is for me either the sem-priest or smA "to unite".
