So here's a non-horror story.
Most brides end up crying at least once on their wedding day -- it's a frenetic time and nerves are bound to be under stress. Stuff that wouldn't bug you on another day, on your wedding day, just might. I did end up in tears, and one of the wonderful friends who were my wedding attendants plomped herself down in a chair and held me till I was done, and then we went on with the wedding. That moment is one of many special ones I still have from that day -- she was a good friend, she was there for me, she looked after me. The marriage didn't last, but that doesn't mean that moment wasn't a good one in my life.
I think OH's offer is a lovely, lovely, sweet and wonderful thing!

ETA: Incidentally, nothing went significantly wrong during my wedding. I was crying because my mother couldn't be there (inasmuch as she was dead), and I missed her.

If it makes you feel better... my wedding went off without any real problems. I always figured I'd be crazed by the time the big day came... but in the end I was surrounded by family and friends who knew and loved me and I was surprisingly calm.
