Can I just say.........first question made me laff. NOT the worst accent I have heard. But still crap LOL! Have hope for 'Universe' Although Begby is now 'Ewan McGregor' accent. Teehee!
FWIW, his parents are Scots. His native accent is Canadian -- he's imitating his father's accent. He was born in Scotland and raised in Canada; he also spent a few years in Scotland in his teens.
I meant where in Scotland, lol. I find it quite hard to distinguish one dialect from another. I'm used to very broad Weegie, or Hollywood Scot and that's about it. Everything else all sounds the same to me.
You reminded me of something random I noticed for the first time the other day. I was watching SG1 Season 1 (not sure which episode though...) and Matt turned to me and asked "Is that Carson?!" to which I stared at the screen and said "Yup, definitely is." No accent, and (obviously) not "Carson" but the same actor.
This may be old news to others, but it was new to me :)
No definitely NOT a Paisley accent Hahahahaha.........there would be subtitles required. :)
He does not tooooo bad a job of 'Scottish' sounds 'Highlandish' to me as they annunciate very well and are easily understood. Apparently they speak purer english than the English.....I think not LOL!
IKR? My mum's family are from near Paisley and yeah...I can't understand them sometimes. Lol. Except the swear words, they always stick out. LOL.
I supposed his accent could be explained by him living abroad for a long time...loses it a bit, adapts to a Scottish that the yanks can understand...and then slips back into his proper accent when he goes home. Lol. My nan's a Geordie and you can hardly tell sometimes until she talks to someone from up north, then her accent all comes back! It's so funny to hear it change in a matter of minutes.
