John has always hated the days growing shorter, the nights growing longer. It means Christmas is approaching, and he’s never liked the festive period. It’s just an excuse for stress, for those with families to abuse their loved ones and those without to feel bitter and alone.
John definitely feels bitter and alone.
Bobby, on the other hand, is a bundle of Christmas joy, babbling non-stop about presents and decorations and turkey and cranberries and brandy sauce. It’s not infectious or anything as lame as that, but John can’t help but smile when he sees Bobby bubbling over with excitement.
John doesn’t have a family, but Bobby does, and Bobby loves the illusion of the holiday and spending time with his parents and his brother, and John never wants anything to ruin that for him.
Never wants to see that light in Bobby’s eyes die, wants to it to keep burning brightly, John’s guiding candle in the endlessly dark December nights.
