I closed my eyes, focusing every part of my body on the strumming violins echoing perfectly in my ears. My head and toes swayed to the melody that was becoming increasingly louder, faster, and stronger. I raised the volume as loud as ( Read more... )

Rock, baby!

I like many types of music. My favorite classic composer is Tschaikowski. I love the "winter dreams".

And here´s a big fan of DM as well :D

Heheh. Funny. Clashes of taste.

(And, wait... shit is the curse word? *puzzles* Try as I might, I've never been able to understand that as a curse word. Yet, American media insists on censoring that word, while leaving things like damn in. Very curious to me. Sorry about this long sidetracked thought.)

Well, here, the only "bad" words on tv are ass and bitch. They can pass because of the animal meanings. I'm not religious, so I don't really count damn. Words like shit and fuck are always bleeped out.

Shit has always been a curse to me, which is why I love it so!

I don't know... if my mom says shit, I'm pretty sure it ain't a curse word. *snicker*

And yeah, my religious upbringing makes damn (and other declarations in the name of god) seem like way more of a curse than something like shit. Shit is hardly ever censored in Canada, as far as I know. We have pretty lenient censoring here (although, our Prime Minister wants to bring in new censor laws, so I should knock on wood).

I'm pretty fascinated by cursing. I do curse, but not excessively, and I always include it when writing dialogue if it seem appropriate (it would feel unnatural to me if certain types of characters didn't curse). I find it interesting to consider what the actual curse words mean, and why some words are considered curses by some people and not others.

For example, I wouldn't even think of saying frig around my family (it's up there with fuck, since it means the same thing), but my SO's parents toss it around all the time. French Canadian curse words are all parts of the church. Interesting stuff.

My whole family curses all the time. Which makes me think that any children I have will be early cursers, since I have trouble censoring myself. :P

I'm sure there's a wiki page or something on the origins of certain curses. At least, there should be. The US has a pole up it's butt when it comes to cursing, so it doesn't surprise me that there are words that are fine to you, but here, they are the causes of congressional hearings. :P
