Mail Theft

So a few weeks ago, I had a prescription refill coming from the mail-order pharmacy that went astray. The package was sent via USPS with tracking, so when I realized after several days that it still hadn't shown up, I was able to check the tracking and see that its status somehow changed to "forwarded" before it got lost in the system ( Read more... )

Crikey!

As someone who's been waiting for several pieces of mail to show up, it is rather hair-raising to hear of a mail-forwarding being submitted without your knowledge. Did they speculate at all how it happened? The fact that it was sent out for delivery and returned suggests something to me.

They didn't speculate, but I suspect that somebody within the postal system was involved. I think the "out for delivery, returned for forward" is standard procedure, but there are some other details that make me think the shenanigans weren't purely external. I would not be surprised if the postal inspector's investigation turns out to be meaty.

Yeah, it seems to me like there's possibly two people in on this- the person who took/returned the packages for delivery, and someone who initiated the address changes. It's not likely you'll hear anything about that side of things, but still... it's good it wasn't anything that would be difficult to replace!

I actually *don't* normally get many packages in the mail, so I think it was just random.
