Casting call...

So, in "fuck me with a wheelbarrow, I wish Hollywood would curl up and fucking die, die DIE" news this week, Guy "Mr Madonna" Ritchie - whom you may recall once directed a movie that didn't suck - is onboard to "reimagine" Sherlock Holmes.

The concept sees the character be more adventuresome and less stuffy than previous screen incarnations and ( Read more... )

Alan Davies? I guess it depends on how far you want to go with the "reimagining" palaver.

I suspect Alan Davies may be a bit gormless for Holmes. But as the Doctor, I reckon there might be a chance there!

Nesbitt for the Doctor? Please God Know!
How about Vic Reeves or Eddie Izzard?

Weirdly, not bad choices.

As for the Doctor... I though Vic Reeves was dead! Or is that just peoples interest in him?

Well, we've been leeching a lot of QI, and he's popped up on that a few times. He's disturbingly brainy, too :).

No, no... he's on Brainiac, that Brit faux-science, quasi-Mythbusters ripoff. Hosts it with some Big Brother UK unceleb named "Tickle".

I'd laugh except... I think you're close to the truth. This is a little like one of the (thankfully rejected) Batman spec scripts that had Alfred as a wise-cracking black mechanic...

James Nesbitt, I say yes!

I can see the Doctor being quite believable played as bugfuck-crazy for the last regeneration.

Well, it's that or Brian Cox.

James Nesbitt won't be the new Doctor. I'm pretty sure. We won't get a new one before 2010 anyway; Tennant is, at the very least, doing the specials next year (they've already finished filming for the Christmas one, I believe).

I'd love to see someone older. I think we've missed the opportunity to have Bill Nighy (who was almost Doctor number nine), but surely there's someone else in a similar category? Failing that, let's get an unknown.

Moffat does like his back catalogue of actors, though. As long as its not Jack Davenport. Actually, that reminds me of Ultravoilet, which gives me a great idea...let's see Philip Quast in the role! Yeah - a Doctor with distinguished silver in his hair!

As for Holmes, well, Hugh Jackman can do Victoriana with an action style. Or perhaps a buffed up John Cusack? Or-yes! What about Hugh Laurie? About time he gave up the American accent - and we know he's got some moves. That House can gut a man with a cane.

Quast... Nice. I like that. I'd like to see an older doctor... not just pretty boys.

How about Ian McShane or Ian McKellan.

Ian McShane! Perfect. Though I can predict the miles of "Get that Master cocksucker in here now" "parodies" that would flood the net upon his casting.
