This is from THE UNSEEN# 14, a mediocre 1954 horror comic. But check out those seals' faces. This gives the legend of the Selkie a new unsettling quality.

"Blue flame" blamed on evil spirits? Sounds more like grandpa had beans for dinner the night before. ;)

Giving off that particular blue flame might drive away evil spirits.

Ironically enough, I just recieved a new book from Amazon called THE BOOK OF SEA MONSTERS featuring art by Bob Eggleton. Great stuff, no selkies though.

Should any Selkies be living in the U.S., they'd seem to be naturals for service in the Navy's Special Forces.

Speaking of selkies... windupguy February 11 2011, 19:11:05 UTC
You've probably seen or at least heard of "The Secret of Roan Innish", an Irish film about selkies which plays to the common mythology and is a great story. But noone seems to have heard of the more recent film starring Colin Firth called "Ondine", which also concerns selkies, but in a very different way. I highly recommend it (and, gull darnnit, it's an instant download on Netflix!)

Haven't heard of it, but now I'm interested. Thanks!
