From an old issue of FAMOUS MONSTERS, this is George Barr's concept the awful shape-changing alien from WHO GOES THERE? by John Campbell. This has been filmed twice as THE THING (FROM ANOTHER WORLDS). The versions are both good, very different and who knows, maybe the property is due to get dusted off again. Hey Doc, the link to the Campbell story review is not quite right.

Also, while I'm here - did anyone ever do a comic strip adaptation of the story?

Thanks, I'll fix it (or try to).

I think Dark Horse did a series back in the 1990s. There was quite a bit of good adaptations and licensed characters for a while there, but it was after I stopped buying comics as a hobby.

You do know that they are in the process of dusting it off again. They are currently working on a prequel to the Kurt Russell version, i.e. what happen to the other team of scientists who originally found the alien. I think it's coming out 2011.

I may have heard about it, but it didn't stick. There are so many movies in stages of production, many of which just fizzle out and aren't heard from again.

Still checking the paper for BUCKAROO BANZAI AGAINST THE WORLD CRIME LEAGUE...
