I'm reminded of urban legends about deaf people being gunned down by gangstas who took offense at their sign language.

(A perhaps tangentially relevant Fun Fact: today, as well as being Columbus Day, happens to be Aleister Crowley's birthday.)

That is so funny. It's amazing how here in Texas, people do the 'hook 'em horns' sign. It's the sign for the University of Texas longhorns, but everywhere else it's interpeted as devil horns. Bush got in a lot of trouble once for flashing the sign back to some UT fans who flashed it at him first. Proof, they said, that Bush was evil! I remember too someone once wrote a letter to Marvel comics asking if Peter Parker practiced some sort of finger-yoga, given how Spider-man was able to extend his two middle fingers all the way to the back of his wrist while keeping his outer ones extended, in order to fire off his web shooters.

I believe that is also the gesture for "surf's up," isn't it? Or I misremembering those old Beach Party movies?

The "surf's up" or "hang ten" gesture is similar, but not identical; one extends the thumb and pinky ( ... )

Thanks for all the information. I hope I didn't start a turf war between Longhorn fans and surfers misunderstanding each other.

Toyah Willcox...?

LOL!!! Very funny.
And, this being Marvel, he'll be back two issues later.
