Title: Sorry, Big Man Author: dr_dredd Genre: Gen. Angst, h/c Rating: PG-13 (one teeny little swear word) Word Count: 1,500 Summary: Ronon ponders the meaning of loss. Spoilers for Kindred II. Disclaimer: I no own, you no sue. Thank you.
Thank you! A wonderful consideration of the differences and similarities. A Carson who hasn't broken up with Laura! Oh, noes! More seriously, that's got to be hard on them both (even if Cadman has been reassigned, as many guess because we haven't seen her in so long). I've started thinking about the things this Carson didn't do that the other did, but I hadn't remembered "Sateda"; that does hurt. I love that hug Ronon gives him (right before passing out)! Ronon passes himself off as not a deep thinker, but we found out in "Reunion" he used to write poetry, and he surely thinks too much; he just doesn't talk about it. I knew he couldn't refuse to talk to this Carson, but of course nothing is easy on Atlantis.
I'm awfully glad you watched, and that you wrote this. I hope to see more from you!
Kindred II just bugged me because some of my favorite Carson moments were nullified by the cloning. Sateda was one of them. At the end, I also loved how Ronon was all menacing, then just reached over and hugged Carson. (The little dig about the sedative was cute, too.)
From there I realized that the end of Carson's relationship with Laura was also nullified. I was much happier with that, because I wanted them to continue as a couple.
This was really good - I love Ronon's POV - I also love the conversation and all the differences in memory between the two Carsons that it points out. And Cadman, I'd never given her any consideration before now...
Thanks! I hadn't thought much about Cadman, either, until I started writing. Then I started going through all episodes with "old Carson" that took place after the cloning. First I realized Sateda hadn't happened according to "new Carson," and I was quite upset because that episode had the best Carson/Ronon interaction. Then I moved ahead in the season and thought, "Hey, what about Laura..."
Oh, thank you, I think you just summarized everything I couldn't quite put into coherent words on the Carson situation, and really lovely to see it from Ronon's POV. That little hug between them was so heart-breaking.
I agree. It's almost the opposite of the hug in Sateda. Carson had just proved himself, and Ronon gave him a really huge, bear hug. (If it had been me, I probably would have been crushed.) But in Kindred II, Ronon was being extraordinarily gentle. That was the most poignant moment of the episode, for me.
Excellent exploration of the differences between the two Carsons, and how many things he wouldn't have experienced; I hadn't even thought about some of these (and doubt if the writers will either!). Good tag.
Somehow, I don't think the writers will explore the issues, either. The one that bothered me most was that the current Carson hadn't experienced the events of "Sateda." I really enjoyed the Carson/Ronon interaction in that episode.
