Every Time

*lower lip trembling*

Leo just died and it's really quiet in the war rooms and California is still too close to call. And everyone looks sad. Especially CJ. I know she's being strong for the President but I really think it's hitting her harder than she's letting on.

And I really hate that this has to happen just for me to get to Inauguration Day.

(hugs)

I love the episodes and Matt winning (totally foreshadowing Obama/McCain) but I always get sad over Leo and then even with knowing the ending, it's like, "Josh! Get it together! Donna LOVES you!"

Bradley Whitford is in Cabin in the Woods which I'll probably be seeing on Saturday even though I didn't originally plan to.

I've also been watching clips with Michael Casper online and in my personal canon, he was recruited by SHIELD and forced to change his name to Phil Coulson.

See, I've heard and read the foreshadowing thing and I think it's completely inaccurate, because aside from skin color, there were really very few parallels. Particularly when people try to make a comparison between Hoynes/Russell and Hillary Clinton, because there's nothing to substantiate that and people fall back on "Washington insider." Hoynes and Russell were both long-standing members of Congress who'd made a name for themselves in that capacity before becoming the presumptive nominee(s) by way of the V.Presidency. Hillary was a former First Lady and one-and-a-half term Senator who was known more for her husband than anything and who was dogged by that for her entire run. She also ran a more issue-oriented campaign, particularly on healthcare, than either of them did. Meanwhile Obama was a junior Senator from a progressive Midwestern state who was a minor celebrity and was hand-picked and groomed by Washington insiders. Santos was a relative unknown from the South who ran on education reform, had little support inside the party ( ... )

Aww. I've just been re-reading some post-Transition fic, and I will probably start a from-the-beginning rewatch soon, to introduce a friend to the series.

Yeah, I think Leo's death will hit me hard again. :-(

As far as Santos 'foreshadowing' Obama - I don't know that it's that quite so much, except that someone (who, I don't recall right now) did say that the character of Santos was based on Obama - and based on him when he *was* a junior senator, blah blah blah. I don't think they expected Obama to follow quite the trajectory that he did (at least at that speed), but the character was based on him.

edited, because that was dumb.

It was Eli Attie, who I am generally unimpressed with as his work on House is extremely unexceptional and his WW writing credits tend to be on the more fanciful side (as in, shit that would never actually happen) and his Studio 60 writing credits are for my least favorite episodes (and again, are pretty unrealistic and ficcish). Plus, writing speeches for Al Gore is not something I'd put on my resume.

But the bigger thing is that none of the West Wing cast and crew can keep their damn stories straight, and thus I have to assume that Sorkin was not the only one snacking on magic mushrooms. The whole Sam departure, whether Vinick was originally going to win, how Sorkin came up with the premise, etc. each have like four different versions, so I'm not placing a ton of stock in anything Attie says.
