It all seemed so real. As if he just reached out his hand, he could touch her. Could stop her from leaving.
“Don’t go,” he begged her. “Don’t leave me again. I need you here.”
She just stared at him in silence, sadness and regret drifting through her eyes as she moved back slowly into the darkness.
“Diane! Don’t go!” he cried, trying to struggle forward towards her. The darkness closed in, leaving him alone once more.
Owen awoke with a broken cry, heart hammering in his chest. It was a dream, just a dream. And he was still alone.
