Doing my bit for charity, mate

At Christmas I informed my family that I'd no longer be buying them presents, but would instead be donating to charity instead. In response to the untimely death of a good friend, Joe Holmberg, just before the New Year and several other reasons, I've chosen to donate to Cancer Research. So technically I'm giving to charity too :P

Ug this double reminds me I need to cancel my direct debit to WWF, I'm gonna localize my charitable giving. I'm sick of them sending me crap I don't want (complete with SAO's even when I've expressed I will not be donating anymore money).

I realise charities need to create awareness to their cause but they shouldn't try and push away their existing supporters.

Surely the thing to do is ask your family to give money to charity instead of giving you presents?

For the last couple of years, I've asked my parents to buy me bits of rainforest for my birthday and Christmas, so that bit's covered too. :)
