[Kaden's handwriting is unexpectedly neat -- as in, actually legible. It's still clearly his, but he's made an effort to make it readable. This also occurs after his tag-in to the deathpost, which will be forthcoming.]I don't know if everyone knows yet, and I regret that, if you didn't, that you had to find out this way ( Read more... )

[He stares at this journal entry for a long time, trying to decide whether or not he wants to respond. This is the guy who hurt Cassie. Saul doesn't trust him. On the other hand, it's a memorial service. Iris's ward would have to be a really cold-hearted bastard to try anything. So, he'll take this post at face value.]

If anyone was planning one I haven't heard anything about it but

A service would be good right appropriate

There should be one.

[Oh, he's a cold-hearted bastard, certainly. This is just a perfect opportunity to make people think otherwise. :) Wouldn't do to not have a response to the death of a friend, now would it?]

There will be one. It's the least she deserves. I'm only hoping I can manage to put something properly respectful together in such a short amount of time.

Hey you.

Planning on having a ceremony of sorts of my own, but that's private and just me. But you know, I like public things, so if there's a service, I'd like to be there, be part of it.

Blah blah blah. Stuff.

Was thinking we could also have a vigil, even if it's a bit dangerous.

Should have known you'd show up. I'll keep everyone updated via the journals, so you don't have to worry about being kept in the dark about any services.

Though if you have any ideas about what might be the most appropriate for Iris, specifically, do let me know. Religion was always a point of vague contention for us, so I don't know as much as I probably should. :(

A vigil. Interesting. I just wouldn't want anyone else to get hurt in the process of mourning one that was hurt so deeply, you know?

In our world, alchemists, when they die, are usually cremated in a funeral pyre. I imagine she would have wanted a traditional service. I know she wasn't practicing as much as she wanted to, but she deserves [scribbled out] every honour due an alchemist who completed her highest service.

Thank you. I can look into the legal hoops we'd have to jump through to set up a pyre, if it's possible. I can't make any guarantees we could, but I'm sure there has to be some information about it somewhere.

As for any other traditions you might have, let me know if there's anything necessary for me to get. I hope you don't mind if I leave the rest -- setup etc. -- to you.

[scribbled out] [scribbled out] About her things, thank you. I should be thanking her. It'll mean a lot.

You're welcome -- it's no trouble. I can drop them at your place or you can pick them up. Or, I suppose, meet somewhere, but one of the things is rather large. Let me know when is convenient for you.

I don't know how I'd transport them, but you're welcome to come to my place. My apartment might be better, not my lab. Any time is fine.

[ooc: He's really glad he's already completely cleaned up her blood. For many reasons. He's not sure he could do it now, and he doesn't want Kaden seeing, which is awfully ironic.]

Address? I can probably drop them off in a few days -- funeral prep + other unrelated stuff = almost 0 free time at this point. :/ Sorry.

[Several hours later, probably late at night the day after Iris's death]

I'm...holding. I've been stretched very thin lately.

Thank you for offering to organize an memorial service. She deserves something but...I'm not sure I would have been up to organizing a public event right now. Besides, Western funeral customs are not something I am particularly familiar with. I think Iris could have appreciated the Japanese customs, but I also think the rituals would be lost on most of the rest of the people here--they don't have the right cultural framework.

Good to hear.

I wouldn't say I necessarily offered, but someone had to step up to the plate. Apparently we're aiming for a traditional alchemist one, which means Roxis is the expert here.

Well, I rather wish the decrease in my workload had come about in another way, but....
I suppose I really can't say that I'm surprised at how this all turned out. People like her just weren't made for worlds like this one, and especially not for Chicago.

Roxis? I don't think I've met him. Someone from Iris's world?

I doubt there's anyone who would wish that, having met her.

Sometimes I forget what people can and can't see in these journals--goes to show how much I use them. Roxis is, from what I understand, someone from much further down her world's timeline. I'll admit that I tuned out a lot of what they talked about in my presence.
