"This is Ianto, Ianto Jones..."

Jul 16, 2009 12:41

Just downloaded Mine All Mine, which I think is the only Russell T Davies series I've never seen at all - somewhere at the back of my head I knew that Gareth David Lloyd played 'Yanto' Jones in this (RTD's love of reusing names and fondness for recasting actors collide), but it's still really weird to see. I kind of want to watch this series as ( Read more... )

Aww, look at his little fresh face. Diddums!

I did see Mine All Mine when it was originally on - deliberately so because I knew RTD was doing the new Doctor Who and I wondered whether it'd be any good! As I recall it, you'd be hard pressed to read it as even vaguely Torchwoody (unless Griff Rhys Jones is another of those 1990s Torchwood leaders who went totally loony?) but I think the Siwan Morris character could possibly be seen as a proto-Gwen (well, she's dark-haired and Welsh and a girl... does that count?).

I've just finished episode one - the daughter looks so much like Gwen. And the son's got a school friend called Jimmy Stone (Rose's ex-boyfriend, mentioned in the non-telly stuff and possibly in season 1). And there's a photo onscreen with "John Hart" printed across the bottom! I think I could definitely work this into the Torchwood universe, but then I'd want to throw Queer as Folk into the mix as well, which gets awfully complicated since Doctor Who exists as a fictional show in that universe... *brain asplodes*

I still want to know what relation Esme Harkness is to Jack. Her age means that he'd have to have got busy quite quickly for her to be his daughter (what year did he fall into, again?). Wife is certainly a posibility - Jack marries a beautiful prostitute and later abandons her, but she keeps the name to remember him by.

With Jack's time-travelling shenanigans she could be almost any relation - I like the idea she's his wife, though.

True, who knows what he got up to while still time travelling. I always automatically assume that anything he did in the 19th or 20th century was while he was trapped here waiting for the Doctor, but of course he would have visited many times while a Time Agent or a conman.
