To say I am happy when my phone rings is not really true. Ok, a girl has to stay in business, even a, well a girl never reveals her age, let’s say old, vampire has some bills to pay. We do live in the world of humans, and they sometimes have an unhealthy obsession with money. But really, to see my fellow vampire reduced to ashes, or nibblet pieces, isn’t a highlight.

I do enjoy doing clean up jobs for certain people. Josef Konstantin was one client I never say no to. Of course he made it worth my while to come and clean. Mick St. John, was another recently frequent customer. Some others seemed to destroy a vampire they no longer wanted around only to have an excuse to call me. Good PR work and free advertising I suppose.

But tonight my phone doesn’t seem to stop ringing. I have already been to one end of the town to the other, and now we are on the freeway, on the way back to the mid-cities, our fourth clean of the night. Not the busiest night we have had, but one that keeps us on our toes. Perhaps it’s ‘get rid of your vampire’ time… we seem to have quite a few mutilations going on.

I suppose there are other professions I could have chosen to do for the past few hundred years, but making sure humans don’t know about us vampires is a vital part of the vampire society. So I may not get many raises - most of our clients are either not wanting to be identified, or small piles of dust - but at the end of the night, I go home, knowing our kind has been protected from those humans who may grow a bit suspicious.

We stop at an apartment building, not the usual cleaning job site, and the crew tumbles out of the van. Grabbing the gear and pulling a clipboard off the shelf, I write down what I need, making sure the guys have everything they may need for whatever this job may require.

Slipping my headphones on and glancing around the street, we cross into the building, ready to do what we do best.
