Downtonland Community Rules
What is downton_land?
downton_land is an interactive community revolving around the masterpiece which is Downton Abbey.
How Do I Join?
The first thing to do is submit your application here After you've submitted your application, you will be placed into one of the three teams (Crawley Family, Serving Downton, Ladies_Gents). You will also receive two invites: one for downton_land and another for your team community.
What Happens Next?
Your next step is to join all the other sub-communities--you can find a list of them here. Some communities will require a mod's approval for you to join, and you will usually receive it within 24 hours.
How Do I Enter Challenges?
Challenges will be posted at dlBilliardRoom (games), DowntonLibrary (writing) and DowntonPainting (graphics)
When a challenge is posted, the specifics pertaining to it are posted along with it. To enter the challenge, simply comment to the post with your submission. Comments are usually screened, and the mod will have access to all entries.
You will earn points for participation, voting and winning challenges. Your team leaders will keep track of those points. There will be an overall team winner at the end of each battle, and points will be reset at the beginning of each new battle. Battles generally last for three months at a time.
What Are Sigtags?
Sigtag are small graphics (300x150px) that display your team name and name/nickname. 1 extra point is awarded to each member that uses a tag banner when submitting their entries. There may also be extra points for using a certain themed sigtag. For example you may get an extra 5 points for using a sig tag with Lady Sybil on it.
If you do not have a tag banner, feel free to make one for yourself or ask a team member to make one for you.

If your question is related to a particular challenge, there is always a comment thread labelled "QUESTIONS?" in each challenge where you can ask for any clarification you may need. If you have a general question, feel free to comment here and a mod will get back to you ASAP.
General Behaviour
1. As per Live Journal policy, you must be at least 13 years of age to participate.
2. Bashing and flaming of characters, teams etc will not be tolerated. This is all supposed to be fun after all.
3. We are a spoiler-free zone. If you would like to discuss spoilers or use spoilers in your entries, please make sure they are warned accordingly.
4. The most important rule of all have fun!
Challenge Communities and Rules
1. You must participate in at least 1 challenge every 2 weeks. There are a variety of challenges so hopefully one will interest you. We’re not asking you to participate in everything but we do ask that you participate in something.
2. Whenever you enter a contest or challenge, please be sure to read the instructions carefully. It is important to make sure that you follow any specific instructions in those posts otherwise your points won’t be counted. We don’t want to have all your hard work go to waste.
3. Please keep your ratings PG-13 for activities that involve voting. For participation only challenges, feel free to use higher ratings as long as you warn accordingly.
4. You must ALWAYS sign your contest entries with your name and team (i.e. Name//Team Name) or with a personalized sigtag that has your name and team. This allows mods to instantly know which team earned points. Failure to do this may lead to your entry being disqualified.
4. Do not show your contest entries to anyone until winners are announced.
5. Cheating will not be tolerated. Cheating refers to sharing answers, collaborating on entries unless specified, asking team members to vote for your entry, and abusing hint systems through team communities, private messaging and instant messengers. If you are caught cheating, you will automatically be removed from downton_land, and your points will be removed from your team's total.
6. To assist in keeping your entries a secret, any graphics you make must be hosted on an anonymous site like Imgur or Imageshack
7. We encourage all our members to submit to any contest they like, even if they're not the best writer/graphics artist/puzzle-solver, etc. In almost all cases, entries are screened, and only the winners are revealed at the end.
Leaving/Hiatus
If, for any reason you'd like to leave downton_land please do so HERE You may rejoin the community at any time by commenting at the application post.
If you will be away from the community for an extended period of time (~2 weeks or more), and would still like to remain a participant, please make sure you post for a HIATUS. The mods will mark you for inactive for any period of time, and you may come back and participate whenever you are able.
Again, the most important rule in this community is to HAVE FUN, so get to it! :D
