That was great. Felt like a scene from the series. You really capture their "voices" well. Thank you so much for sharing.

He watched her long fingers stroke the cloth along the shaft of a candlestick. Suddenly, nothing in the world was more important than the silver.

Just because they're responsible heads of the household doesn't mean they can't have a little fun now and then, does it?

He didn't look up when his door opened. Only one person would walk in without waiting for an invitation. I'm kinda in love with those 2 sentences. :)

"You'd have your maids take over the household if I let you." LOL! That one last stance before he yields to her completely!

He watched her long fingers stroke the cloth along the shaft of a candlestick. Lordy!!!!!!!!!!!

And then, just when I was getting over her stroking his shaft, you put in those last 2 paragraphs of dialogue! Now, I'm actually dead, I think. I'm not sure if pg is the correct rating here!

They're polishing the silver! Anything else is in your dirty mind. They're innocent, I tell you, innocent! I have it on good authority that whilst Elsie Hughes does not live in a sack (and contrary to rumors, it certainly is not Carson's sack she does not live in), she is Not a Woman of the World.

Quite distracting indeed. Poor Carson, this woman always turns his world upside down. In a very good way. And I just love the dialogue. It might just be my dirty mind, but it really feels like an old Hollywood comedy when they really couldn't say explicit things because it was forbidden by the Hays code so they used double entendres. Here's hoping Carson will need her more often. *wink wink*

Not your dirty mind at all. If the system is rigged so that a whole class's essential person-hood is denied, those needs and impulses will find other ways to leak out, won't they?

Sometimes a candlestick shaft is not just a candlestick shaft.

Heavenly Lord, the Double Entendre had me giggling like a school girl. :D

"You'd have your maids take over the household if I let you."
"I'm trying to make your life easier."
I love the interaction between these two, how he's stubborn and she still cares about helping him. It feels like an actual scene from the series. :)

I always feel that this is the highest compliment someone can pay my writing, because it means I got three voices -- Logan's as Hughes, Carter's as Carson, and Julian Fellowes -- down, which is't always easy to manage.
