When things get comfortable, there's a routine that settles in. Clark works the farm. On the days Anna's working, he visits Chloe for lunch, or whenever he just gets bored in those few hours in the afternoon when occasionally, there's nothing to do. Most nights are spent with Anna, either going out or just hanging around her place.

Tonight is one of those nights and as is now usual, he lets himself in to her apartment and greets her with a kiss on top of her head, where she's reading on the couch.

As usual.

"You might just have to," he teases. "Depressed chickens make for a lack of egg production."

[downsidedarling]

She rolls her eyes. "Clark..."

...okay, can't think of a good way to finish that sentence. A giggle and a shrug is totally the same as biting commentary on the woes of his emotionally troubled poultry, right? Right?

"What?" Clark asks innocently. "I bet the cows would like it, too. A little after milking dancing might just be what they need."

[downsidedarling]

"You're a dork, cheri."

Shaking her head and failing at the suppression of a second giggle, she hugs him.

"A really, really cute dork."

[hero_farmboy]

"I am not," he replies in mock indignation, giving her shoulders a squeeze. "It's just most people have no idea how sensitive livestock can really be."

[downsidedarling]

Snort.

"Just as long as I don't have to take any clothes off while I'm dancing for your farm animals, mon cher."

Anna will do a lot of things for love, but giving a cow a strip-tease is really not one of them.

Clark snorts. "Yeah, I want to boost their morale, not scare them to death."

Beat.

"Not that you're scary, it's just anyone who did that would traumatize them, I think."

[downsidedarling]

"Oh, yeah right. I still remember when you were scared of a partly-undressed Anna, cheri."

She grins.

"There was a lake involved, as I recall."

Those were the days.

"I was not scared. I was just being polite."

[downsidedarling]

"True, true... I seem to remember something along those lines."

Where by 'something along those lines' she means 'sweet, adorable car makeouts'.

[hero_farmboy]

"I do try to be polite," he nods. "It's how I was brought up."

[downsidedarling]

"Whereas judging by my behaviour I was brought up to be careless, wanton and immature," she responds smartly.

[hero_farmboy]

Clark raises an eyebrow. "I don't believe that."

[downsidedarling]

"Oh, of course I wasn't brought up that way."

She grins.

"I learned it pretty quick, though."

[hero_farmboy]

"Given where you've spent the past few thousand years, I'm not surprised."
