Roughly two-thirds of a year later (less a week, perhaps), there they are again, Eights resting on one side of the bubble and Clark across from her. It hasn't been long since they last spoke. A day, perhaps. Eights stirs, and thoughtfully declares, "Not long now, I don't think."
"Yeah, we're all about the over exaggerations," he chuckles. "Although I'm fairly certain it has, in fact, been forever since I had one of my mom's pies."
"My mom's the best cook. You'll see soon enough." Even if he's going to try and make sure his mom's not really around that much, but still. There should be at least pie.
"Glad to hear it," says Eights. "Now enough of the food talk. Fuck, the first thing I'm going to do when I get down from here is make myself a waffle the size of the Grand."
(It's a library. She's mentioned it in passing before.)
"...I don't know," says Eights, with a thoughtful smile. "I haven't been out to a living world in a long time. What's it like, where you live? Besides 'on a farm', I mean."
"You realize that's about the best way to describe it, right?" Clark teases.
"Well, it's Kansas. Rural Kansas, so it's flat and there's a lot of corn. The town I live in is called Smallville and it very appropriately named; one horse town they used to call them. Metropolis is a few hours away - it's a huge city. Maybe bigger than new York. We could go there for a day or something."
"Metropolis," says Eights, raising her eyebrows. "That's an amusing name for a city. Yeah, I think I'd like that."
She grins, softly.
"And come on, you live on a round planet. This is flat." A swift gesture down at the endless planar expanse of land beneath them. "At best you're going to get 'minimally convex'."
"Oh, c'mon, I'm just funnin' with you. And naming a city Metropolis-- it's basically like naming it Big Fucking City, y'know? I mean, it's a little unimaginative, is all."

"God, how can you tell? It feels like it's been forever for me."

She hasn't answered his question, but that's not particularly by design.
