Two Loons for Tea came into my life almost by pure happenstance.
My mom and I had a vacation planned for Seattle, and as a last-minute thing, I went on entertainment sites for Seattle for things to do. One of the things suggested to do was part of the City Hall Becomes Concert Hall Series, and one of the names that caught my eye was Two Loons for Tea. And with nearly any musician you can think of, I found them on MySpace and enjoyed the songs there. So I told Mom that we were going to see 'em play... for free, even! :)
Seeing them in the hall probably wasn't the best sonic environment for them, but Sarah Scott's voice soared in that space. Their music, while seemingly simple, is beautifully melodic and perfect for chilling by yourself or with some friends. You wouldn't want anything too crazy for this sort of genre anyway.
It appears that they've been invited to play for CMJ in New York this year, so I look forward to seeing them in a venue that's more appropriate for sound. Some place like the Canal Room or the Living Room would be perfect.
After their set in City Hall, I purchased their self-titled album and introduced myself to them. They all seemed so appreciative that I took the time from my vacation to see them, as an added bonus, Sarah was so nice. The fact that she talked to me like I was an old friend, like she already knew me, made me instantly comfortable and really like them more.
I took these pics during their set:
So, if you're into "dreamy pop"/melodic music, I recommend
Two Loons for Tea! (Check out "Neon Nothing.")
