For those who don't know (and don't follow my mom's LJ), today is Patriot's Day. It's a holiday for some skewed half of New England; schools are on school vacation, and some businesses and universities consider it a holiday. As a New England transplant, I've spend the last few years pleasantly baffled by Patriot's Day, but I'm happy to join in.

WELCOME TO THE CULT. We're weird and bitch heavily about tourists and leaf peepers, but when it comes down to it, we're damn proud of our history. And hey-- any excuse for a day off from work and lots of adorable parades, right?

I wrote a rather long, involved poem called "The Ride of the Enterprise".

That is.... AWESOME. Seriously. I think we probably did something similar, but it was a little harder, living in Concord. We studied early American history for our ENTIRE EDUCATION. You couldn't escape it. We would take day trips to the Alcott House and Concord Museum and Walden. It was bizarre, kind of.

I bet DC had it's own American History Overdose Flavor to it, neato. I only did the typical 8th Grade field trip to DC and don't really remember much of it, actually. I'm supposedly going down there for work this summer, maybe I'll stay an extra day and hit up a couple places.

Your mom sent me.

I'll have to come out to visit her some Patriot's Day.

And I agree with your opinion on Bush stealing the name...

Hiya! Welcome!

Yes, it's quite the Scene on Patriots' Day-- flags, glory, history on the pavement. Such a fun day.

And thanks... I just think it's insulting to not have known or not care that we already celebrate that. Besides, it clearly doesn't need a name, really.
