Re your question #4: I think that's just the best English translation of the words for the Japanese comedy-duo characters, which are literally "angry guy" (Watanuki) and "dumb guy" (Doumeki). But I'm sure using "straight man" amused the heck out of the translators!
My theory is this is a "reboot" brought about by Watanuki's wish to see Yuuko again, as implied by the text on pages 2 and 3, as well as that text being a reference to legions of Xxxholic fans wanting to go back to the "good old days" (pre-timeskip) of Xxxholic.
Either way, the art's still ornate and gorgeous, and so far the story seems good too. And Watanuki and Doumeki are having their wonderful relationship. I've got a couple of theories about the eraser, one of them with decidedly naughty symbolism.

I thought that they were implying that Watanuki is not as "straight"/ hetro as he pretends.
