Yes, I know I'm very late in blogging about this. It could not be helped. I left on a cruise on Sunday, June 19th, the day of the season finale, and I left well before the finale aired. I didn't return home until Sunday, June 26th. As you might expect of a thirty-something single guy on the last night of the cruise, I stayed up late partying, ( Read more... )

How I would love to see GRRM´s contract with HBO. Think there´s a clause in there that allows them to finish the series if he doesn´t? I´m guessing there is, because no one would put out that kind of sick money without it.

I have the feeling (and GRRM has already hinted at this) that there could be more seaons than books. Book three could become two seasons, and books four and five could easily become three seasons, once they´re melded together.

So that could give some breathing room (taking into account filming dates, not air dates) of:
Book 2: 2011
Book 3: 2012/2013
Book 4+5: 2014/2015/2016
Book 6: 2017
Book 7: 2018

So say Book 7 has to be ready by 2017. Three years per book is pretty reasonable, especially if a certain network lights a fire under a certain bottom.

Of course, if it´s year for year, that would be 2016 for filming Book 7 (giving around two years per book) and something of a stretch.

Yeah, from what I've read it sounds like a strong possibility that two seasons will be devoted to book three, and three seasons to books four & five. Under these circumstances, I do think there's a good chance GRRM will keep pace, and they could maybe delay the final season if necessary (IIRC, they did that with the Sopranos).

But if it should prove to be a year for year thing all the way through, then yes, I am worried ...and I'll stick to what I said, meaning I'll refuse to watch the HBO series first.
