Interzone 2007 Reader Poll

May 28, 2008 18:55

So I received issue 216 of Interzone in the mail today.  This is their guest-edited mundane sf issue.  More relevant to me is the fact that it also contained the results for the annual IZ reader poll.  This one polled all the stories published in IZ during 2007, a grand total of 40.  The top 10 had already been posted over at the IZ forum, so I ( Read more... )

Aw, who cares about those silly polls. The way I see it, if one person is affected by the story, we did our jobs right. The number of people who vote for something is not a measure of its worth and quality.

Of course I would say that, given that I've never scored well with any of my IZ stories either :)

So we haven't "heard" the last of your story, eh? Podcast reprint maybe?

I know I shouldn't care, but hey, it's my first publication, which only happens once. I'm sucking it in as much as I can.

And you can substitute "heard" with "seen" if you want. I mean, aren't these two words practically interchangeable when it comes to this expression? If not, my goof. This is how rumors start. :)

Yeah, they do generally come from me deliberately misinterpreting things for my own amusement :)

If it is not too much trouble, could you list stories 11-20 in the poll results?

Lots of negative votes, and I still came in twelfth? I'll take it!

" Rachel Swirsky's 'Heartstrung' - both received respectable positive votes ('Heartstrung' was in the top five of positive votes) but also the highest number of negative votes. "

Is it bad that my reaction to this is: score?

Of course, "Heartstrung" has also been reprinted twice now, so I'm just generally pleased with the story's reception, even if it annoys as many people as like it.

I'd say score indeed! And if it's already been reprinted twice, that means what, three different editors have thought highly of your piece? Can't argue with those results.

Slightly off-topic, but lately I've been using the artwork from "Feelings of the Flesh" for my LJ icon, so I must give an e-wink since it appears you're doing the same with "Heartstrung." At least, I'm assuming that's what your icon is?

Actually, this is an illustration that a friend of mine did of the story for fun.

But I do have a couple LJ icons of the Interzone art, too. Squee for internal illustrations. ;-)
