It's amazing that this story would be anyone's "forgotten" story. It's brilliant, and it makes me envious of Poe's abilities at conducting what reads like a symphony on paper.
Thanks for the note -- it's great to hear from someone who knows this story. I've heard at various times from casual readers that they often believe Poe's language gets in the way of the story, etc. -- but that's so absurd. He is so precise in using language, and it's better than watching a great movie -- I feel as if I'm in this asylum, at this dinner, surrounded by these people.
I have a similar affection for Poe, even though I find myself reading the same 15 or so stories over and over again. I'll give this Professor Fether story a whirl.
Thanks for letting me know about the book -- I guess I've got to allow that readers with comprehension problems should have access to stories that might be difficult to read.
I just hope they eventually get to the genuine story at some point.

Regarding Poe, I think a great "Complete Tales" book is a good investment. The one I have is a Vintage trade paperback.
