Yeah, I also did not see what all the fuss was about. Perhaps it was more shocking in its day. I think I'm still processing it. Also, I'm trying not to see it through the lens of Apocalypse Now (which I also haven't seen since high-school).

I think what I got out of it was a commentary on the nature of work, and "progress", but I'm probably reading too much into it. Mostly though, I think he's trying to show that civilized people can be just as brutal and confused as uncivilized people. But more about that later, in the official post...

I don't remember the specifics of the book. But I do remember liking it a lot.
