unfortunately the people it's aimed at will never vote for a fellow of such dusky hue.

but in theory I appreciate any alleged liberal who pushes back against bullshit on all available fronts, even if in vain.

Believe me, I'm usually the first in line to expect unenlightened behavior from my fellow prisoners Americans. But in this case, I think you may be underestimating many gun-toters.
