Went and saw
Sunshine last night with some friends thanks to
hindustan's suggestion. I loved it.
By the director of one of my all-time favorite movies,
Shallow Grave, as well as Trainspotting and 28 Days Later (which I didn't know until I got to the theater), it's a beautiful and thoughtful sci-fi movie

Crap, I had no idea Danny Boyle directed it. I had heard exactly _zero_ about it before Hindustan's invite, or I might have made more of an effort.
Although I much prefer to get my "thug life" crappy theater experience in Daly City now. At least the parking is free.

But you like Lost, so perhaps we should just agree to ignore each other's criticisms so that we don't find each other annoyingly idiotic.

I'll just assume that's supposed to be there whenever my panties start getting bunchy.

The trailer seemed astoundingly stupid and full of the "look at our hollywood overstuffed effects". And
it was super beautiful.
Why does a great director and a fine writer choose something stupidly implausible? Is there such a rush
that they can't call one physicist for a decent reason
to race to the sun? WTF?!
Shit, I'm complaining and I haven't even seen it yet.
I guess I'll watch it, on a comfy chair, while listening
to my favorite band on headphones.

'Sunshine' isn't a documentary from the future, it's science fiction. It was made by a film studio, not the physics department at Cal Tech.
Did you watch 28 Days Later? Did you spend the whole movie thinking, "Argh! There's no way people could get infected and become homicidal maniac zombies in two minutes!! (Couldn't they have called up the CDC for a decent reason that people might suddenly become zombies?)"
The premise of 'Sunshine' is basically: "In a future in which our understanding of physics makes the following possible... "
And so on. Just remember, trailers are often very poor representations of the whole movie -- good or bad.
