Trying to learn how to walk like heroes we thought we had to be.

When I was seventeen I was all about Ben Gibbard (Death Cab For Cutie) and his acoustic cover versions ("Girls Just Wanna Have Fun", "They Don't Know", "Joga", "Complicated"). But the time has come for him to step aside for:

Heh I will have to watch these later! I love Fiona Apple's version of "Across the Universe" - check it out, it's better than Rufus' I reckon! Also Ben Gibbard covering "Complicated" is bloody brilliant :) Haven't heard those other covers by him though!

Here you go!
Includes: Complicated, Free Fallin', I Want It That Way (LOVE), Thriller (ALSO LOVE), Saddest Story Ever Told, "Joga", Girls Just Wanna Have Fun (ACE), They Don't Know, Your Remind Me Of Home.

When I first heard "Complicated" I was so. excited. and flaily. Plus I will admit to loving the original which makes a good cover even better.

I think Fiona's version is technically better, but I am more of Rufus'. I've made two sexswap covers mixes so far but have never used Fiona's cover. I think it may be time I amend that error!

Brian's cover of I Do Not Hook Up OWNED the cd player in my car a couple summers ago. I love his voice. I have never caught him live on one of his solo acoustic tours but I hope to. I'll take MP3s of the other 5 tracks!

Me too! Well, my mp3 player. I adore his voice and I adore him, it's unashamedly one of my main obsessions right now.

I saw the Revival Tour in October(?) and his set was the last of the evening and it was mostly acoustic and brilliant. I don't know if you've listened to the Horrible Crowes album (it's gorgeous), but when he performed "Ladykiller" the entire room (around 800? Possibly more because it was packed wall to wall) just hushed and it was so beautiful and haunting to listen to him. I would love just see him solo, though (waiting through 4 other performers was a bit much) but I doubt that'll happen in the UK for a while yet.

I will uplaod them soon! I've just found a bunch of other brilliant covers I forgot he did - Damien Rice's "9 Crimes", Jack Johnson's "Sitting, Wishing, Waiting", "Don't Think Twice, It's Alright", "HALLELUJAH", so I'll include those as well. :)

I'm so envious! I am resolved anew to catch a show. I was hoping he'd tour in support of the Crowes' album here in the US and I'd have a chance to buy it at a show, but no dice so far.

I haven't, but that's good to hear! SideOne really pushed it in their email newsletter this past summer/fall, but I felt (feel) like I still haven't even worn out the American Slang album yet, so I've been holding off.

I would love just see him solo, though (waiting through 4 other performers was a bit much) but I doubt that'll happen in the UK for a while yet.

He was in DC two years ago, which means I should be able to WILL his return. Then I'll work on getting him to do a UK show for you ;)

Thanks for the covers uploads!
