Man, what's it like living away from home? I couldn't ever imagine myself leaving home in the near future.
Two weeks ago our lecture was on Barbie. More specifically Barbie as a role model and issues about race through the many other non-Caucasian Barbies created throughout the years.
Somehow I missed/forgot you were a history student. Memory of a goldfish.
Love the idea of student solidarity. I'm starting a Ph.D. program at a new university, after hating the last Ph.D. program I was in at a different university. I got my Master's there instead and hightailed it out of town as soon as I could.
I like my new university, but everyone here is a VIP in the field (counseling psychology) and I think they expect us to be VIPs as well--they're already talking about the schmoozing they're going to do with us at state and national conferences. I don't want to schmooze. I don't want to be a VIP. The words "social hour" make me want to run screaming for the hills, the same way "networking" does. So I'm trying to figure out if I can just be an underachiever (by their standards) and get my education and do counseling without all the bells and whistles attached to my name, or if that's going to be a problem. Bah.

And I'm starting Persian. More weird squiggles coming my way soon. I'm unbelievably excited about the fact that I'll be able to say 'p'. Hurrah!

Post-modernism is a huge pain in the butt.
