Long post is long

Having some ponderings about maybe leaving LJ, or alternatively taking a long break around May-July/August (depending on how well you know me/how long you've read this blog you might be able to guess why this specific timeline, but it's also a bit because of the old "LJ is dying" thing because: cliché but true). Even if I do go I will still have ( Read more... )

I think I might be getting somewhere with my oldophobia (=what I dubbed my aversion to watching old TV or movies!
Whaaat, you don't like old movies? I've been super into old movies (1920s-1960s) ever since high school. Most modern stuff is really boring to me.

Yeah it's this weird hang-up I have, I've always hated having it but old stuff just feels weird to me. There's just a different style to them, audio and video are both in crappy quality by today's standards, people were in a different mind-set so there's a lot of that stuff to be annoyed with, and then there's the fact that most of the actors are either old or dead and that's just depressing to me. But I'm working on getting over it, think I'm finally making some progress!

Yeah, but people leaving is a huge part of WHY LJ is dying. The more people keep talking about leaving, the more their friends will think of doing the same, and so on.

Well, yes and no, because the problem isn't so much in people leaving IMO, it's just a general lack of enthusiasm and community. Like, people leaving is the symptom, not the disease? Because I tried to be patient and hoped that it would just bounce back, and a while back when there were all those friending memes I thought maybe that was it but it just fizzled out again and people are still leaving/disappearing and there's just this general feeling of LJ being a sinking ship.

Yeah, I get that. I'm staying until my closest friends disappear too though. I don't need a huge flist with tons of entries to read every day.

Anyway, I don't use twitter or tumblr, so if you leave, I guess it'll be goodbye before we really got to know each other. :(

I take a lot of breaks from LJ, but I don't think I could leave it in favor of tumblr just because the fact that you can't really comment on stuff just frustrates me. I don't care how many people have reblogged the meaningless thing I've said, I want to have a conversation about it. So even though the amount of people with which to have those conversations here is constantly dwindling, I prefer here.

And that actually makes sense as to why old movies wouldn't be enjoyable - when you mentioned it, I figured it was just because so many people have quoted this and that over the years that the movie is just kind of old news when you finally see it. (It is, however, going to make me plug the Princess Bride again, as I'm pretty sure there are only two actors in that who are now dead, lol.)
