I need to find me some candy root beer barrels (which I never even knew existed, and I feel I've been missing out) so I can make some Root Beer Float Cookies!
I'm more shocked that you never knew about root beer barrel hard candies! I loved those things growing up, they were one of those $.99 packs of candy you can pick up at a convenience store or gas station or the like. Very tasty. You could probably substitute with root beer lollipops, if you can't find the barrels (although there are tons of places to order them).
maybe they're an american thing...? Because all my classmates I've talked to where unaware of these candies as well!! (I *adore* root beer lollies, so I can't imagine I'd have missed out on root beer candies had they been around!!)
I hadn't considered them being a strictly American phenomenon - the things you take for granted when you get a dozen of them every Halloween! (Then again, I have to go online or visit the other side of the country to get my See's Key Apple Pie or Lime Truffles (we won't even discuss the sinful goodness that is Ohio's Heggy's), so I don't know why a lack of root beer barrels in Canada would shock me so.
yum. that sounds very good. i think you'd have a good time at that crazy candy store in toronto whose name eludes me at the moment. they have every kind of candy you can imagine, and many you can't. :P
Sugar Mountain? There's one in Ottawa as well. It's just about my favourite store EVER. That probably is somewhere I might find cnady root beer barrels...
