thespatz was right, the back half of Mag7 season 2 is awesome. The show is uneven but much smarter than it looks, and at moments it's outright great, truly gritty, or atmospheric, or heartclenchy even though it isn't wanting to go too dark and stays mosty in the escapist mode. I was going to link you to these anyway, since they're some of my favorite pieces, but since you really like Mary and Nathan, I bet you'll like them even more: Tea and Sympathy. The same author (J. Brooks, who writes great plotty gen in general; you can find her fic listed on this page) also wrote a sequel-ish story called Inkslingers, which is ground-rolling levels of funny -- Mary hurts herself, and dragoons the Seven into helping do the special edition of the newspaper for her while she's out of commission. Really, how hard could that be? (...*giggles*)
I also like Gwyneth Rhys, for very different reasons -- she writes very absorbing, romantic Chris/Vin, if you're in the mood.
