How we roll

Linking, yet again: Your Friends Are Not Watching The Same Show You Are And That's Okay.

I don't assume that my reading is the One True Right One, and if we disagree, we disagree. Squee or anti-squee. Whatever.

I don't insult your intelligence. Please don't insult mine.

oh fandom

You'd think after five years of the same arguments, SPN fandom would finally have realized that we're all watching different shows...and that's okay. There's no one true way to watch it and no one true way to react to/interpret/respond to the text.

Anyway, I love that meta hard. ;)

I'm so tired of this! It's gotten very, very old. I'm also tired of hearing that the show must think we're dumb if we buy this, and I'm tired of hearing there's a True Show and a Not True Show.

Oh dear. Did someone insist you should be watching the same show s/he does? Now see, this is what I don't get. I mean, if I like chocolate and you don't, what's the problem? Eat vanilla. Life is so simple. Or could be.

I'm too stupid or hormone-driven to see all the ways that SPN has ceased to be The Show It Is Supposed to Be, apparently, or I don't care about the characters the right way. Or something.

That's one of my favourite articles. I've always liked the idea that we could all be watching different shows. And that we can change our minds about what show we wanted to be watching over time.

Definitely. Shows evolve, or we add to the reasons we're watching it. Or, y'know, we're watching it for the same thing we've been watching it for all along in addition to other stuff and just...have a different opinion.

Definitely the post everyone needs to (re)read right now. Come on, fandom, we've only been doing this for six years. Get with the program!

<3<3<3 Their faces!

Oh, zimshan, stop being so shallow! Can't you see how the show is ruined and we just don't get it?

OH NO! I didn’t read it exactly the same way someone else did? THE HORRORS. I MUST BE WRONG. Excuse me, I must now block out my schedule for the next week to run around in circles screaming the sky is falling down to anyone who will listen, when all evidence tells me that more thought went into this premiere than the last three. I think that's a good way to spend my time, don't you? ;)

Silly girl. It wasn't thoughtful, or layered, or well-filmed, and if you really understood Supernatural, you'd realize that! :p

*smish* Okay. Okay. My, it's getting sarcastic in here! I need to go look at the trio of grins again and rewatch more White Collar.

There we are again. Fans are stupid if they hated something because they didn't understand the grandeur of it OR fans are stupid because they liked something because they didn't understand how much it sucked. Does it ever come up to people that the way person X is watching the show or reading any texts is radically different than how person Y is?

Ignoring is the best answer, bb.

SO hilarious. And yeah, I've been on both sides of this, and don't give a hang if someone disliked it.

I'm remembering a post after the S5 finale on how if you disliked it you were watching the show wrong.

We're all doing it wrong!

I say we have a parade in our honor!

I love this. They are so silly. I love the change in Misha's face and Jensn's grin.

I hadn't read the article before but I like it a lot. I'll have to bookmark it

I read a very passionate post about why the episode sucked and I couldn't deny some of what she said, but I didn't agree overall. I was okay with reading it because she didn't insult those who did like it. At least, I don't think she did. I won't go back to check. My reasoning since last season is to keep my reading of fandom response to those I know who are honest in their assessments and are reasonable in stating them. I love to be forced to look at something differently or even to look at myself differently because I can see the problems being stated and am still okay with the episode. Just don't insult me while you do it. My cautious approach makes me less angry.

They are very silly, and I love them for it.

That article has saved my sanity many times.

Yes! Yes, exactly! My issue is not that people disliked it and I've had several great conversations or read posts that disliked it that didn't insult anyone's intelligence. They didn't like it and here's why and that's that.
