I love the way you have captured the pure essence of these characters, even though they are grown up. Just those delightful little things like Calvin spinning in his chair and imagining the way he would answer the phone.
I nearly cried when he said Hobbes was in a box in the attic. the whole idea of that kills me. Even Mr. Bun being given away. :(
But I adore the idea that Hobbes has followed him into his adult life and... and Susie can see him!!! \o/ Oh and Susie is just so spot on. She'd be just like that.
This was an absolutely delight to read. I have all Watterson's books of which I've read numerous times. This will have to go in my collection now.

The Mr. Bun thing made me sad for Susie. If maybe at one point Mr. Bun was real like Hobbes, but Susie didn't need him like Calvin needed Hobbes and so poor Mr. Bun faded from existence. Or maybe Mr. Bun was an ordinary stuffed animal, not magic like Hobbes.
Possibly the physical stuffed animal form of Hobbes is in a box in the attic, even if the "real" Hobbes isn't. The logistics of Hobbes are complicated.
