[OOC] CLAMP LOEV CLOTHES

Jul 04, 2007 21:09

CLAMP is big damn outfit whore. Anyone who's gotten their hands on a CLAMP artbook knows this fact. However, Tsubasa is the only series that I know of (save CCS) that actually goes through the trouble of providing an IC excuse for random costume changes. The characters are entering a new world? Time for a costume change! :D

Meanwhile, I've been meaning to make a post listing out the places that Kurogane's been to (or will go to, like Celes and Infinity). Since, y'know. It's hard to keep track of this stuff when you've got twenty volumes of canon to sort through. SO. Here is a brief visual guide to Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicles, as told through Kurogane's many, many outfits.

Some of these didn't size the way I wanted them to, so they'll either be too small or two large. :/ I SHOULD go back and fix them. Later. Ish. when I'm not lazy.

Nihon

This is Kurogane's original ninja outfit, which he wore in his original country of Nihon. (Yes, that translates to Japan. But Kurogane's version of Japan is a lot different from every other incarnation in the series, sooo it's easiest to just call his Nihon and be done with it.) Nihon's basically feudal-ish era Japan, with lots of samurai and ninja and pretty, pretty priestesses.

Kurogane used to wear this outfit every time he left a world / traveled to a new one, but after Shara, Yuuko ended up with the whole group's clothing. And she won't give any of them back until they pay her for them. :(((

Japan

This is where Yuuko lives. The group pauses here briefly to snag Mokona and get the journey started; after that, they leave.

Hanshin Republic

Next stop is Hanshin, which is essentially modern ... Kansai-land? I don't remember the name of that region. Oh well! The place is thoroughly modern, so Kurogane gets a normal t-shirt and jeans. He's still wearing all black. This is going to be a theme with him.

Koryo
The picture I have is too big. Sadface. CLICK ON THE LINK. It's got Kurogane punching through a wall with his bare hands. :Dd

Anyway! Koryo is basically ancient/mythical china, with some spiritual stuff floating around and also some evil dictators. Because everyone loves evil dictators. Also, Sakura has some really awesome luck - she ends gambling up the money for their clothes here.

The Land of the Lake

There's a lake. With a city in it. But no feather. And no costume change. :(

Jade [Picture]

I thought this place was called "Spirit" for the longest time, but apparently that's just the name of the town. Anyway, Spirit is really cold, but not as cold as Celes. It's here that Kurogane fights off his greatest nemeses: FORK AND SPOON. Fuck you, western utensils. :(

Outo/Edonis [Picture]

Outo is supposedly a representation of 1920s era Japan. I think. While everyone else is wearing more western style clothing, Kurogane gets to flounce around in a blue pinstripe yukata. Classy. Technically this world doesn't exist, though; it's actually a virtual reality game in a theme park land named Edonis.

Forest World

Kurogane's back in his ninja costume for this one. Lots of bunnies, no real monsters to fight, no costume changes. Kuro-puu is very sad. :(

Shara [Picture]

Yet another vaguely Japanese world. Probably more modern than Kurogane's Nihon, but definitely not Hanshin or Outo. Either way, the group kinda gets split up and has a teleporting mishap on the way to ...

Shura

Kurogane ends up staying here six months with a) no translation and b) Fay getting on his nerves constantly. But hey, at least he got to kill -- no, no. He probably didn't kill anyone either. Damn curse. :( They make a quick stop back at Shara after stuff finishes happening here.

Piffle World

This is another modern world, so Kurogane's back to the black-shirt-on-black-pants getup. Except for when he's in his racing gear. Then he's wearing a flamboyant black shirt on gay, gay black pants. Betcha Fay picked that outfit out for him.

Lecourt [Picture]

This country's pretty similar to Jade, fashion-wise. Kurogane's still wearing a big black coat! Fay is still very, very gay. We also get Kurogane backstory in this arc, which is A++.

Acid Tokyo [Picture]

This country is less about giving the heroes new clothes and more about making them take said clothes off. ... I'll be in my bunk. I think Kurogane's tie is magical. Even though it never gets retied, it also never ends up flying off his neck even when he runs around and gets SPOILERED in the SPOILER.

I'm taking Kurogane from the end of this arc, so technically he was wearing this when he came into camp:

Devastated Country

We spend like half of a flashback here. Gg guys.

Bondage Land Infinity

I can't even begin to describe this world. Alice in Wonderland meets Gothic Lolita meets freaking Autozam from MKR, plus ROBOTS. YAY ROBOTS. Another high-tech world, I'm assuming, although we don't see much of the world itself while the group is there.

Celes [Picture]

Fay's homeworld! Cold world is cooooold. Also, Kurogane is possibly the only guy in the freaking world who can possibly make Celes' outfits look manly. Thank you, Kurogane. We salute you.

And that's just canon. Since this is CLAMP, we also have oodles and oodles of pretty artbook images. And random chapter covers. And random merchandise images. And random ANIME images. If Kurogane's not some badass warrior of some kind, he loevs sake. Or is pissy. Chocolate! Fishing! Capes! More stuff!

Did I mention he's rly rly hot? Because he is. If you click on one link tonight, click on that last one.
