Poly plural = even more drama than just poly by itself?

Do I need to say anything more? This post really snarks itself. Umm... holy cow.

As we all know, my name is Ducki. I happen to be plural, meaning there are five other people sharing my body. I'm a member of multiplicity, as is diana ( Read more... )

I don't see the snark in quoting large chunks of a post with "Do I need to say anything more?"

But OMG! The snark is liek, so obvious! The admission of a nonstandard personality trait always snarks itself. Which is why every single post to polyamory makes it here unaltered.

Ugh. Lazy snarking.

Thank you, thank you. I have now been meta-snarked. Awesome. You have made me happier than you probably realize, and I'm not being sarcastic.

Not many people can lay claim to a meta-snark. We should make up an icon that people can post on their journals! "Meta-snarkee!"

I need a mother fucking flow chart, a mallet, the DSM-IV, and brain bleach.

And I require it now.

Oh sure, like I'm going to fall for that one again! Last time I believed that I couldn't believe anything for a week without a painful, burning sensation and a mild case of guilt.

You've got to wonder, when things start getting that pluralistic, maybe they just need to break out Robert's Rules of Order and start with the motioning and seconding and voting. "The meeting of the dating subcomittee will now come to order..."

Failing that, if she's only interested in dating the guy's alternate personality, I guess she could always just knock on his head and say "Hi! Can Xander come out and play?"

Having never known anyone with multiple personalities, this actually has me wondering. How *do* you know which multiple you're dealing with, and can you make plans with one of them for a specific date/time, or is it hit or miss who will show up at any given moment?

Depends on the system. Some households are very disorganized, and/or can't ensure a particular person out at any given time. Some households can switch fronts at will. (Then there are the "Hey, you're getting too unruly here -- back to bed with you; I'll apologize to your date and we're going home" situations. Always fun.)

It's often like having roommates and trying to talk to one particular person on the phone. Sometimes it works really well. Sometimes there are interruptions. Sometimes they're not in or out cold.

Figuring out who's who when you're dealing with someone is something like learning to tell twins apart.

There are differences in word choice, tone of voice, posture, attitude, and sometimes clothing/hairstyle/makeup.

Of my household when we were under more stress and less integrated, Marah had a very relaxed, sinuous, almost liquid way of moving, Naomi was very bouncy and a little uncertain with physical control, and Dagger had the poised self-assurance that comes with the knowledge that she could beat the hell out of anyone she had to. Naomi's voice was always pitched a little higher than everyone else's, and her word choice was never quite on except for computer vocabulary.

This is totally non-snarky (I promise!) Is your icon from a performance of Mephisto?

jb_27 August 9 2006, 22:30:16 UTC
Close. In college, I played Mephistopheles in an adaptation of "Faust" that was written by one of the other theater geeks. That icon is from a publicity shot. You can see some other shots here, if you're interested:
