Do you mind if I use this in the Poly 101 discussion in our local group?

Also, do you mind if I chisel it onto a plank and hit some people over the head with it? :D

Have at it, but I might ask to borrow the plank from time to time. ;)

Same request for use whenever I have to trot out a Poly 101 workshop?

And as far as the plank goes, I think it's a great idea. In fact, we might as well set up a manufacturing plant -- [idnh] know(s) there's a whole lot of call for them.

I'm donning my asbestos longjohns for this one because it's not even remotely poly related, and might only ring true for the geeks in the audience, but here we go...

I think this type of attitude crosses subcultural lines. When I was a young geek, just starting out as a programmer, I joined an email list haunted by all sorts of programmers, much more experienced than I. Bear in mind that this was circa 1997... there were folks there that essentially tried to convince me that I was not now and could never be a Real Geek because I had never programmed a PDP-11 in machine language by carving sigils into clay tablets fired in the ventilation chambers of ENIAC.

Those folks were just as wrong as the ones you're describing in this remarkably well written snark. Thanks. :)

Thank you, and yes, it can apply to all sorts of sub-cultures. Goes back to high school and being ostracized because you aren't carrying a certain purse, or wearing the wrong jeans.

OOOO People like that just PISS ME OFF! Everyone's experiances will make them learn different things. No one's experiances will ever be like anothers, even if going through the exact same thing together at the exact same time. While those that feel they are better and more knowledgeable because of their experiance do have good information and ideas to share, it doesn't mean that the road another who is younger or less experianced is the wrong road.

Well written snark!

Oh lest we not forget: If your partner isn't perfectly happy and joyous and supportive 24*7 about your latest thing then of course he/she isn't really poly and you're A CHEATER!

(queues up "Your Cheatin' heart)

I sometimes wonder just who and where are these magical people that decide who is poly and who is not. Perhaps they live in some heinlein-ian universe where everyone just wuvs each other in a nice warm happy puppy pile that then explodes for no reason at all in a big puffball o' psychodrama.

Hm. I might have a new image here: Dandelion poly :-)

Ahem. Try to learn, try to adapt, try to be good overall. Sure I make mistakes; we all do. The trick is do you learn from them or do you just keep making the same mistake over and over...

In the end, you gotta take the road that works best for you and those you care about.
