I love how initially "he has the run of 3 acres" and then at night she "locks him up in his dog run", but not like the psycho people who crate their dog OMG.
Mild allergies force her to keep the dog outside? I have "mild" allergies as well (well with the exception of when it turns into bronchitis), I'd never think about tossing my animals outside. I don't understand the allergy argument at all.
I have mild allergies too....to the world. Why can't people with mild pet allergies who have pets do the same thing as people with mild allergies to things we can't get away from (such as dust and mold, both of which I'm allergic to)? I take a pill every day. They're doing wonderful things with non-drowsy 24-hour allergy meds these days.
I mean, severe allergies that are giving you asthma attacks, that's one thing. And don't get a dog or cat if you know that's going to happen to you. But lots of people are allergic to lots of things and very few of those things can be fully banished outside at all times. Just deal.
Agree. I have severe allergies, which is why atm I don't have any furry pets. And I have no intentions of getting them just so I can lock them outside so that I'm comfortable. No thanks. I'd rather have them get adopted by a family who can keep them indoors.
I should answer the comments aboutthe dogs choosing. We don't crate train, but if one comes into the house, the dogs take turns laying in there. The newest, Lassie, loves to find little hidey holes that are small like crates to lay in.
Allergies, smallergies, we have allergies here too, but guess what? We deal with them. With 12 cats, 3 dogs, and a ferret, we have our fair share of fur around, so we take allergy meds, or whatever we need to do. (Not, me, I'm not allergic, heee.)
I do have to add that the dogs have not been crate trained, but have been confined to small rooms before, in times of need. For the most part, though, they spend their time wherever we are.
I always have to wonder about people who talk about having indoor/outdoor dogs as if it is a mutually exclusive thing. They couldn't possible *gasp* install a doggy door so that the dog actually has a choice in the matter, could they? Nor would it ever occur to them to allow their "outdoor dog" inside the home for at least part of the day. No! Because I'm sure that the dog would hate it, right? *ugh!*
