Why ask for a fucking opinion if you are going to attack the suggestions?? Believe me, I love rottweilers more than most people, however I have no qualms about removing a potentially aggressive dog from a situation that could make the issues worse. But NOOOOO, some people just want their decisions reinforced...nothing wrong with that, but if that's ( Read more... )

I agree that she needs to call animal control. I doubt that the people who live next door to her are going to appreciate her charity towards the dog. What do you want to bet she ends up doing big fat nothing?

My suggestions just don't 'fit' her situation

*headdesk*

Of course they don't. If she admitted they fit into her situation she would have to actually come up with a reason that she is not willing to take any action. By whining that you don't know the situation, etc., she can justify taking no action at all.

I would bet that she made the post in the hopes that she would get warm fuzzy responses to the fact that she gives the dog water now and then.

You know, you are exactly right...that's what I have been thinking all along. Of course, she had to throw in the fact that OTHER people gave her BETTER ideas than calling AC...dunno why I even bother.

I'd love to know what suggestions she got that are so wonderful. If it were me, and I had gotten some other good suggestions, I would have said, well I am not comfortable calling AC, but someone else suggested X, so I think I am going to try that. I have to wonder what kind of advice she's been getting.

I understand her hesitancy to contact animal control. I have volunteered for several AC's, and I *know* that if her AC is any like the ones I volunteered for: a) the dog will never be confiscated; b) the dog will be killed at the shelter; c) the dog's owners will receive a slap on the hand w/ a "notice to comply" or other such nonsense. Not all ACs are under-funded, of course, and there are ones that have the resources and legal clout to enforce animal cruelty statutes...sadly, many don't. :(

BUT, I would still heed the advice of contacting a breed-specific or Rottie knowledgeable rescue and start working on getting the owner's to give up the dog. I would feel much more comfortable if a rescue was already available to take the dog than simply having AC confiscate him.

In any event, thought you would like this icon - does seem to fit the situation. :)

I like that icon. I use this one a lot in these types of situations, as it seems to describe the attitude of many a SPO.

Tee-hee, 'tis an excellent icon as well...and yes, it does apply to many SPO's (and just plain stupid people too!) :)

forget about calling animal control.
if i was you, i'd continue with feeding and playing. you obviously don't mind, and neither does the dog (or the owners). i don't see how animal control can care more about this dog then somebody like yourself, with love and compassion. if he goes, he's either gonna be put down, caged and it's gonna be the same way as is it now but without you.

just keep it up, please.

Did that reply make anyone else vomit from ignorance?

I don't understand why people don't get the concept of AIDING THE PROBLEM. Unless she decides to move in with the family and do that for the rest of the dogs life, or she decides to take the dog into her own home she AIN'T DOING SHIT. Oh yeah, spending your OWN time and money on SOMEONE ELSE'S dog is really going to solve the problem. If they're too stupid to take proper care of their own dog what makes people think DOING IT FOR THEM is going to do shit? UGH.
