Because taking your animal to the vet to set a fracture is SO DUMB!!!!!

And also! You shouldn't take your pet the vet because THEY DON'T WANNA GO! That's really a valid reason to not take your pet to the vet!

stupid pet owners, animal neglect, holisticpets, jnlldxn

ive already said my piece.

pray tell, WHAT animals is it ok to just "set" their leg and the fracture is ok?

and im sorry, theres a big difference between a leg injury (like, when i got a big scratch), and a FRACTURE.

RABBITS OF COURSE. LOL.

And I agree... There's a big difference between using common sense and being an idiot. XD Clearly, Jnll is the latter of the two.

Apparantly googling how to fix a sprained leg makes you a vet..and to think people actually spend money at a college for years to learn that!
I think I'll go learn how to do laser eye surgery. I'll post pictures when I'm done restoring my vision!

Hey! Can you restore my vision, too? I hope I get a discount!

Basic First Aid != Being A Vet.

One involves, y'know, having a brain and understanding that a scrape can probably be cleaned and heal up fine, and maybe a single episode of diarrhea or a cat who vomits up a hairball is probably not going to die if aren't rushed to the vet.

The other one involves years and years of schooling and a degree in medicine and, y'know, that kind of thing.

It's easy to confuse, clearly! Next thing you know, good ol' jnlldxn is going to be doing surgery too.

Not only surgery, she'll open up her own vet clinic!

It is a very responsible thing to do to have and breed animals when you do not know of any local vets willing to see them and fix them! *sage nod*

Apparently she thinks the snark is about the original poster, so running and telling them will be sweet, sweet revenge for all the snarking that she doesn't care about.

DOESN'T CARE. NOPE. NOT CARING. SEE HER NOT CARING.

I bet ten bucks I know what stalker who'll show up next, wielding the Internet Police Badge of Righteousness.

I'm not saying that it's not a bad idea to use common sense on whether or not an animal needs to be taken to the vet or not. There is a big difference between cleaning a cut and wrapping it, or waiting a day for diahrrea to pass, or not taking the dog to the vet after only one or two vomits, or waiting a day or so to see if an animal stops limping, than trying to fix something like a fracture at home.

Yes, definately. Though with my rat's toe fracture, I could have easily have avoided the vet altogether as ALL she did was tell me to keep him quiet and it'd heal on its own. Which I kinda knew. But with anything bigger than a rat, I'd probably be inclined to see a vet just because I'd imagine there would be more they could do on a larger animal. A lot of time with rats, its a case of knowing that the vet is just going to send you home with the old 'theres nothing we can do as its a rat, if it were a dog we'd do such and such' stuff.

it's odd that they didn't give your rat anything for it. I know the vet we go to will give some antiinflamatories/painkillers even if the bone is too small to set, just to make the animal more comfortable while it heals up.
